Project idea: turning an old slides projector into a VGA projector

I was wondering if it would be possible to turn this small slides projector below into a VGA projector. Maybe using a small LCD screen from a cell-phone? I'm not going after big-resolution, 640 x 480 would be enough.

This project uses a lens from an old slide projector and a old MP4 screen to do a similar thing to what you’re suggesting.

They use a matrix of LED to project the image but I guess you could make use the lighting already installed in the old slide projector depending, on the quality and the environment that it may be used in??
One of the issues would be the quality of the mobile phone LCD screen used, as this would affect the quality of the projected image.
