wiring external devices to xbox360

I want to know how to wire an external LED chaser kit and audio playback kit to my xbox 360, so that when it powers on the kits power on as well, with the LED chaser being on constantly and audio playback to play audio file once (a bit like a boot up tune).

    Just create a led chaser, (using a microcontroller for example), and program it to play a mp3 once when some input pin goes high. now power the microcontroller with the 5V line of your xbox (or use a external power supply) and connect the input pin to your center light of the xbox "dome" (I mean the light that is encircled with the four lights that light up when you connect your controllers).

    Using an Arduino with Wave Sheild would be a perfect solution. The Arduino can run off the Xbox's internal 5V line. As soon as the system powers up the Arduino will power up as well, turning on the chaser light and playing the sound byte you load onto the SD card of the Wave Shield. This would be fairly easy to program since everything can be run at the setup. When you power off your Xbox the Arduino would loose power as well shutting off the chaser lights.

    You can ideed use a arduino istead of a microcontroller, but youre idea to just use the 5V line to not only to power up the arduiono but also to use it as a signal to identify the power up might not work.

    The xbox is normally in a kind of standby state (since you can turn it on with your contolller), therefore the 5V might always be present to power the wireless transmitter for your controllers (not completely sure about this, might want to test it with a multimeter).

     

    So in short: you can use a aduino, but i would use the power light of your xbox front panel as a signal to tell it when it turns on. Instead of using a arduino you could ofcourse also use a different microcontroller as long as it supports audio playback and has enough output pins for your led chaser as well.
