Show ideas

Heya y'all,

Just a few ideas for TBHS that I need to release the kraken on:

- LCD panel salvage - panel is good, maybe it can be used for something else?

- Arduino device addressing - having multiple sensors that are addressed through arduino so they can be identified and sensor details shown.

That's al I have.

LOve the show, wish it was longer.

Here's a challenging project for you:  Convert an old laser printer into an SMD solder stencil cutter usind a higher power laser diode.

    Maybe using

    or

I think it would be easier to build from scratch than take apart a laser printer just to get 2 axis positioning control.

Also as stencils are usually made out of thin metal, I'm not sure what type of wavelength and power you need to cut metal, it would probably be better to just route the holes using a cheap dremel.  You can get ultra cheap ones 20-30 which is cheaper than those laser diodes and definitely cheaper than laser diodes + power supply needed + heatsinking needed.

Lastly, lasers = dangerous, especially non visible light ones which I believe these are getting into the infrared range.  You'd have to completely enclose the whole thing and wear special goggles while building it it to hopefully save your eyes.

Since the raspi will run xbmc, I wanted to interface it with a rotating antenna. We have cut the cord from cable.  I have already done it on linux. Since the demand is so high, I will probably never get a raspi, so I may just resort to some of the other stuff coming out that will be much easier to get and is about the same price.

I think a cool project to show would be something similar to your toilet illumination but for a stairway.  It could be controlled off of motion.  As you walk up they turn on, when you reach the top they turn off and vice versa.

here is a project to improve de xbox 360 laptop
insted of making only an xbox you could also try and make a new  case and ad a laptop or something that is similar to a computer so that you could take the xbox and the computer with you on vacations or to save some room maybe. Hope you like the idea and to make things better why dont you give it way to a very fortunate person?

    That should be fun.

How about making an automatic fish feeder? Something simple that would run off a battery but that you would program first via USB (or other). The system could have the ability to set the feeding interval and feed amount. It should be able to work autonomously for several weeks.

Fish feeder: A friend of mine is building something like that, perhaps we could use his ideas on a later episode. It even has a web server and sonar to detect water levels!

Laser stencil cutter: I agree it would be easier to just build a 2 axis machine from scratch. But yes, some sort of mill or device to help with PCB creation could be very cool!

Re-using old LCD. I assume you mean from a laptop? While it's possible, the effort required is greater than the cost of just buying a $150 LCD from Best Buy or Tiger Direct.

Arduino Device Addressing: To connect multiple sensors on a single bus, look into I2C. (google it) It is an interface protocol that, while not incredibly fast, is very common, has libraries written, and you can connect up to 64 devices on a single 2 line bus (clock and data)
