My idea is to build an in-car computer using something small like a Raspberry Pi (or similar) to act as a server for OnStar like capabilities.
Possible functions:
- Remote Start
- Remote lock/unlock
- Vehicle locator
- Remote diagnostics
Required parts:
- Cellular network USB stick for communication
- Smartphone used as remote
- Bluetooth dongle (for smartphone proximity unlock/lock)
- Small server like Raspberry Pi
- USB-to-OBDC cable
- Interface board for Pi
- GPS dongle for vehicle locator
With the exception of the GPS dongle, all could be stored out-of-sight. No need for screen, keyboard or mouse; connect via SSH & WinSCP
