Docdavies Having built numerous 3d printers over the years including the mendelmax 1.5 I would say you should look at a self leveling bed, upgrade your belts if your using t5/ t2.5 to something like the…

I built a MendelMax 1.5 for about $450.  Very sturdy unit.

    Price is only secondary.

First you need to decide on the quality of the things you want to print.

Those issues then identify which printer can deliver that level of quality for the least price.

There are many inexpensive printer kits and designs out in the market place, but don't overestimate your ability to build a good one.

Also remember to find a good software package that will work with your printer design.

I understand the need for an inexpensive 3D printer, but don't let that rule your decision space.

    Just a thought,

    DAB

If your looking for a high resolution printer I would recommend the Form1 by Formlabs.  I wouldnt say its the cheapest but if you compare it to lets say a ZCorp printer it is.  Here is the website http://formlabs.com

As some have mentioned, $500 range is basically the cheapest you can effectively go.

    Hey Daniel

Do you have a makibox printer?   If so what kind of print quality are you getting out of it.  If the quality is good then that isnt a bad price.  I looks like the print size is a little smaller than most.  I know i spend around 500 when i build my first one years back.
