Cheapes 3d Printer With Reused Parts

jds123

I am looking at making a 3d printer with my friend over the summer, and I was wondering if there were specific things I could find to make it cheaper, like is reusing the actual inkjet printer parts usefull or are they too fragile. The point of this project is to make the least expensive 3d printer that can still make usefull parts, so any ideas on ways to get parts for free are appreciated. Getting old electronics is no problem to me, as I am aquanted with many people who have a habit of breaking them and throwing them away.

    Maybe old steppers from printers?

But as I've said many times, it's better to spend $500 on a kit that WILL work, then waste a couple hundred buying cheap parts that don't.

The main idea is that most of the parts are reused from other electronics.

It is possible to build a 3D printer out of used parts. The problem is you will invest a significant amount of time, and frustration, in attempting to get it to print anything beyond the poorest quality.

I've spoken with numerous people who have attempted the same thing. A few succeed in finishing the build and a rare few manage to make something that can actually print something. The vast majority end up disapointed and leave the hobby completly or find that by the time they are done replacing components that are not performing up to spec that they spent the same amount or more than the cost of a known good kit.

The idea of the build is to create something that if worst comes to worst the printed objects can be sanded or filed down into usable parts
