Digital Caliper auto input into program show idea.

I know you like your analog calipers, but just watching you auto123d espoide rememinded me of my idea. I'd like to be able to transfer the mesurements from a digital caliper to a cad program, like audo123d.

Well doing some searching I do see they make this type of product. Some use RS-232RS-232 ports, yuck. I dont even have that port any more. One was 9 pin serial but $156 http://www.tresnainstrument.com/product/ec20.html I'll do a bit more digging.

I've seen "external viewers" for calipers, such as a box that shows the measurement as you can't always read it when in position.

RS-232RS-232 no biggie, there's an FTDI USB conversion cable you can buy.

Even though it's not ported out the back, most motherboards STILL have an RS-232RS-232 breakout somewhere on them.

Guess Ill look at those again. I didnt look at price. Might be cheaper than that other one.
