Build Idea - automatic tool sign out system

In my dept at work we have a wall of cabinets that house various testers, power supplies, o-scopes, and stuff.  Some people do not adhere to the sign out sheet posted on the door on the cabinet. As an employee we are issued a gerenic RFID tag to enter doors and an ID badge with a mag strip for clock in/out.  The features I would like to see is an email sent to the person that barrowed the item and the dept head of who took what, a key pad to lock/unlock the doors and too track who is opening the door.

Might want an RFID on the tool too, so "checking in" associates your tag with the Tool ID.

The reader hardware is pretty easy, if you have an IT geek maybe they could read an IP address and use the data to log events on the server.
