Possible idea for a show

Hey Ben, love your show, what an inspiration you are to me.  Anyway, I have an idea for an upcoming episode.  I think a DIY thermal imager would be awesome.  Something like a FLIR.  Portable for hunting and what not.  I've got a raspberry pi, so that would be cool to use in the build if possible.  Keep up the good work.

  • Guess you'd have to start with a thermal sensor, which is probably the expensive part.

     

    FLIRS are very expensive. But, like a laser cutter, there may be one part that just isn't cheap.

     

    Maybe a scanning IR sensor that rasterizes a pattern onto a display?

     

    You could take a $100 IR temp sensor, like the one we have here, and use a beam splitter / galvonometer to raster scan it over an area.

     

    This data could then be synchronized to a display with a MCU or FPGA and colorize the data to show heat levels.

    Interesting show idea Matt.  I like the solution you came up with Ben.  This would be relatively inexpensive.
