Interfacing a PIC to a smartphone App

Hello everyone!

 

My first post!

 

Can anyone help.  I have extensively used PICs for years but have never been able to inteface them to the wider world. Sure I can make it switch leds motors and stuff and take input events from switches but what if I wanted to make a swipe on my smart phone and have that light an led or turn a servo.

 

Can this be done with some off the shelf hardware?

 

I would love it if someone could point me in the right direction.

  • I think the easiest way to be compatible with most phones, is bluetooth.  Look at the Pot Stirrer or Naughty or Nice meter.  Basically use a Serial->Bluetooth module on the PIC and write an android app to send and receive bluetooth data.  Look into Amarino on the Android side for a prebuilt widget->bluetooth control and look into roving networks RN41 or 42 modules on the PIC side.
