Automated Toolbox

So you have a shelf full of little bins with LEDs on them. They are all controlled on a web server. Each bin has a number on it and is designated to one part. You go on the web server and type in the name of the component you want to find the name is then transfered into the number code. Then the LED on the bin of components you are looking for illuminates. Thanks for reading! Hope you like it! Check out my youtube channel, rhyse302 is my username.

Was reading what you have listed for a project. Interesting concept of which I over looked while drawing up my design for a work desk. The old style Clock Maker's Desk had a back hutch to it, filled with little drawers. My design was to automate the inventory of parts in those drawers. An Old Keyboard Circuit added in the hutch would act as the brains to tell a computer or Arduino Which Drawer was opened. To force the user to tell the computer if a component was taken out of the drawer , a couple small drawers would be romoved for a Number Pad to be a placed. A value ( Value<=Inventory ) must be entered into the pad before the computer/ arduino would release the draw lock mechanism. By designating a key press ( Or combination key press like :Ctrl+Alt+Shft+A ) one could assign as many drawers as 256. the same amount in the computer alphabet. The Key Press Value assigned to each drawer will automatically tell the computer what component was used. So the user only has to enter in the number of components removed without having to enter the item name. Adding your design thoughts to what I have been designing would would not only keep inventory status for me to let me know when to place an order, but also aide in quickly identifying the location of that item. Adding a RFid Reader With an increased Reading Field Range (Placed under the Desktop Surface) , You would be able to limit Who has access to the desk and determine who was using it at what time. A RFid would be over kill for my purposes , but may be handy for another. If the Work Desk was supporting two types of Hobies , A RFid ( Necklace or Bracelet ) Would be Ideal for Splitting the Number of Drawers between the two Types of Users and telling the computer What interface to automatically pull up . So that your Indentification method then can be split into subroutines according to the Current User's Hobby of Interest. Thought I would share this so that you would see where your LED Identification would be very useful in creating a dream work desk/station.
