How to mod a Arcade joystick into a PC mouse

Hi, I am brand new to this world of Tech modification. I just purchased an arcade cabinet and it came with two arcade joystick and buttons. I was wondering how can I turn one of the joystick and sets of buttons into a mouse, preferably usb but I am open to suggestion. I am good at following directions just need a little help or maybe direct me to some links. I dont have an arduino or PI so hopefully I can do this without those items. Thanks for any help you peeps can offer me.

If I had to take a shot at it, I would get a Arduino Leonardo and check out this tutorial : http://arduino.cc/en/Tutorial/JoystickMouseControl Some changes would be needed, but it is 95% there.

Yeah an Arduino with USB would be the way to go. I was thinky teensy off the bat but the Leonardo is pretty similar. As for not using any arduinos or anything, I don't really know what you could do. Maybe hook into a parallel port and then write your own drivers? Or mod a ball mouse into there somewhere so moving the joystick moves the ball? Not really sure. For only a $20 part (an Arduino), I don't think I'd waste the time hacking a part another object for a half baked solution.
