Viewer Challenge - Auto Flush Toilette for the home

So I was thinking about how to make an automatic flushing toilette at home, like you'd see in a lot of public restrooms. I was thinking a solenoid valve controlled by an IR sensor, but I'll leave the design and technical details to the pros. Only real limitation is that it can't just be something like a motor mounted on the side of the tank that hits the flusher lever. Other than that, do what you will! Thanks!

Most residential homes, in the USA at least, are not equipped with the tankless flush commodes like in public restrooms.  You do have to mechanically actuate the flapper or big stopvalve that contains the water stored in the tank to flush.

I was thinking that the flapper inside the tank could be replaced by an electronic valve and triggered from outside the tank. Would that be possible? I figured the flapper pretty much acts like a valve anyways so it could be replaced by an electronic valve. Possible? or no?

You need something like a big bilge pump valve or one of those submarine ballast blow valves.  The flapper opening to accomodate the big rush of water is about 2-4 inches wide.  You might need to gear up a motor or actuate something powerful enough to open it quickly.
