Build Idea: A remote control for gaming on Windows Computer for giant hands

Hi Ben! My name is Igor. I am a big tall giant fan of your show, litteraly, I am 7' 8.33" inches tall, the tallest man in America. I have watched all your shows at least twice, some many more times. I envy the fact that you can do all these amazing things. With my giant hands I am unable to do anything that requires work with small items. It's the reason I've had to quit making model plastic airplanes and other vehicles.

I have a challenge for you. To build a remote control that connects via bluetooth for my giant bear paws. A remote control that I can use to play games on my Windows computer. Normal size remote controls just don't cut it. It's very difficult for me to play my PS3 because of this reason as well.

My PS3 controller is the only controller I have though, so I took some photos to show you how my hand compares in size to the controller.

And here is my hand with a ruler.

From wrist to top of middle finger, the length is about 25cm.

The widest part of my palm is about 12-13cm.

So basically I imagine the controller would have all the standard things that any controller would have.

From my research into PC controllers, I have seen these items standard:

  • 10 Programmable buttons
  • Left & Right analog triggers
  • A floating D-Pad
  • 2 analog mini-joysticks
  • A "Windows" button (or as I would call it a ctrl-alt-del button, a button that would take me to the desktop in case the game decided to misbehave)

And a few "extra" buttons or features that I would love to have.

  • Take a screenshot button
  • A battery meter (that shows how much battery life I have left
  • And since you have a 3D Printer, I thought you could make a back-lit logo at the center upper part of the remote, that would say "Igor" and be back-lit with a nice neon color, like neon blue, yellow, or green.

The bluetooth adapter would just be something I would plug into one of my USB ports.

I am happy to take any other measurements you may need. I'm not sure what else you would need, if you decided to do this project.

I would appreciate your help. You would greatly improve my ability to do some PC gaming.

Thanks so much Ben.

Your tallest fan.

Igor

Thank you for your answer Shabaz , and thank you for all the details. I will await an answer from Ben. Maybe I'm just too excited to ask a question of Ben, I'm just such a huge fan of his work. Me--> …

Is the original Xbox 1 controller even too small? That's the largest commercial controller I can think of. We could certainly help you out, perhaps as a build later this year? Xbox 360 controller is much…

P.S. Ben, I would like hands that have gadgets built right in, a can opener, corkscrew, exacto-knife, pocket knife, phillipshead and flathead screw driver tips, USB 3.0 256 Gig memory stick, and the rest...well let your creativity run wild. Maybe Colecago has good ideas.
