[Build Ideea] Phone Touchscreen LCD as Gaming Peripheral

Hello,

I think it would be a great ideea to make a touch screen LCD from a mobile phone or tablet that connects via USB and displays macros and other data for your games.

The software part I think it's easy to create, some squares with icons from specific games and key strokes linked to them.

Solid idea, but Microsoft somewhat beat you to it?

XBox SmartGlass does just what you described, though not very customizable for special things or info you'd prefer to have. It functions like the regular controller for the most part.

The big con for me is that it's sucking battery life from that device while mostly sitting and doing nothing. It's rather distracting to have to put down the controller and pick up that device, then back again. It's nice to use Chat and messages, etc. on the side, see details of a game and DLC's, but again that back-and-forth will drive you mad!

There are programmable keyboards out for PC gaming that allow customization, but for consoles (which you seemed to be pointing at in your request) a 2nd handheld unit seems to end up more a burden than the plus we'd hoped for. Not that I want 500 lbs of gear on my head, but a Google Glass-like version I can use handsfree with that type data, etc. would be far easier to work with.

That is not a controller, that is the actual phone or tablet. And as you said, it's not verry custimizable.

In my ideea you take the phone apart and keep only the LCD and Touch Pannel.

You should watch Ben's episode on re-using those screens and how much of a pain/not worth it it is.

ya you are far better off buying a lcd/touchscreen solution for like $70+
