Viewer Challenge- Soldering Station both Hot Air and Pencil types!!!

KAHTU

Being new to the electronics world on the builders side, instead of the IT and end-user sides, I do not wish and can not seem to justify to my wife the expense of a soldering station, let alone one with hot air! So the obvious choice is to build one and I believe I am not the only one out there who would LOVE to know how 2 DIY something like this! Heck,(pun intended), maybe even throw in a vacuum option for picking up SM parts, you could even reverse the flow and use it to dust things instead of wasting money and polluting with the canned air crap.

So what are your thoughts my fellow tinkerers!!

Just as reality check: Buy an  Atten-858D+ hot air station from ebay; less than 60 Euros!

Of course building your own will be a nice project, and very educative!

Education is my main objective and I am also one of those types who like custom everything. Also I am very resourceful at reclaiming from scrap electronics and believe if you build it you can fix it,if you can fix it it will last near forever.  Plus it would be cool to have a OSH design to share with the world, especially in places that are resource limited.

Very good, it will be interesting to see what you come up with. Maybe re-use light dimmers for  heater control?

    Good luck!
