My idea for a cool retro Ben Heck build is to take an old school 16mm movie project with sound, and kick it up a notch or two. It would be great to be able to connect to a bluetooth speaker or stereo system for some better audio than the built in speakers usually can provide. A built in light to use when feeding in new film and dealing with film emergencies like loosing the film loop would be kind of cool too. Getting rid of the old casing and designing a new housing and casing that looks a bit more modern since these projectors are going to be at least 30 years old or older. How about putting in digital display showing the audio and tone level. There is something soothing about the old clickity clack from a vintage film projector playing the old classics. This is how I grew up, we'd watch old films on a silent 8mm film projector outside on warm summer nights. I now do this with my family, with my $30 ebay aquired RCA 500 16mm film projector and a handful of children films I picked up off of ebay fairly cheap.
Anyone else out there a fan of watching film the way film was meant to be seen?
Something else that I think would be interesting is to use an old film projector, modified into an lcd projector. Using the stock bulb and lense of the projector.
