Raspi and Lcd powering woes

Has this ever happened to you; you trying to power both your raspberry pi and an lcd off the same circuit and weird stuff happens? 'Cause that's happening to me. I have my pi on a small USB hub and an LCD all which run on 5V. I've  connected both in parallel, in series, all on circuit with enough current. Whenever I connect the two together with any form of video cable things just get weird. I'm pretty sure I have some voltage running through the cable but I don't know what to do. When I connect them like this, my pi does nothing; the power led lights up, but nothing else happens. WHen on separate sources they work fine though. I have tried literally every cable I can get connected to the two and the same thing happens. I'm not sure what to do short of cutting whatever cables inside the HDMI are transferring power, if that is even an option. Someone please help, I'm out of my depth here.

Not sure, just a generic LCD. I bought it here; 7 Inch TFT LCD Monitor For Raspberry Pi Touch Screen + Driver Board HDMI VGA 2AV Specializing in Arduino compatible deve… According to products on ebay the use the same control board, its model is either PCB80009, or VS-TY2662-V1. A PDF on it can be found here; http://www.b2cqshop.com/best/VS-TY2662-V1.pdf. It says it requires 12V to the board, but other people and I have got everything running at 5V.

I was thinking of running both the pi and LCD assembly through the USB hub this time, although I'm not sure if that will work either.

OK, apparently I cannot power both off of the USB hub.
