Sea fishing bait boat

easy to make but the electronic motor controllers is often the item never mentioned or shown.

It needs to detect high currents (stall) and low voltage, along with the chosen run time.

The 24v motor is the expensive piece.

The body is PVC which can be heated and distorted for the bulge, and the battery is offset to counteract the torque.

The rest is a simple timer with a means to set (magnet and magnetic switch), and a relay.

Some designs have a wide tail with multiple attachment points to offset the sideways current dragging it to one side.

It suits the North Island beaches because they are generally sandy/smooth bottomed, rather than rocky like we tend to have in the South Island.

They often have a means of winding the line in but plastic cable rolls would also work.

You could make a scaled down version.

From what I gather, you link the line to the boat and it takes everything out on a timer, which is programmed according to how far you want to go out.

Then after the set time period the motor cuts. After a couple hours or so, you reel everything in with the fish.. Its quite remarkable

I think its easier said than done, but yes you are correct.

The line contains a number of baited hooks ie a "long line" and can be up to 2km long.

I have seen small RC type boats used with a release mechanism.

It required the boat to be 'driven' out, release the line, and then driven back.

This obviously suited good weather and sheltered waters, while the knotiki devices will handle reasonable currents and waves.

You could adapt the kontiki to pull out the fishing line which is dropped once the motor stops, and a small retevial line pulls back the kontiki leaving the fishing line.

Might be an interesting project if you can find the right motor to use.

hooked up to some batteries. I think the hard thing for me will be building the actual body of the boat,

to make it float and unsinkable haha
