Idea for a show.

Hi

 

I'm from the UK.

Have you ever thought of building a signal system for a model train / rail road.

Something that only lets trains through sections of track if the lights are green. Lights only green if nothing else on that section. Would need to work with having multiple tracks on a board that may join up. Like going from twin track to single track. Would like an option to turn all lights to stop (red) all trains from leaving the section.

    Interesting idea. I would have each section electrically isolated with a small gap between sections. Connect rails to arduino via a h briage for power and direction. Ultrasonic sensors for detecting trains and LEDs hooked up to the arduino. Sensors before and after each signal. Give each signal a switch. Assign each signal and track section a boolean variable. When a train is in a section of track set boolean true else set boolean low. If the next section of track has a train, set the signal boolean high, if not, set low. If the signal boolean is high, turn on the red light. If the signals button is pressed and the track is empty, flip the value of the signals boolean. Power all track unless the signal for the next section is on. Deactivate track where the next signal is off. Set all signal booleans high if stop button pressed. This does not allow for directional controll.
