How about a RPi CNC?

The concept would be simple...use a RPi connected to a router or dremel that would have two or three dimensions of travel. Something that a baller on a budget could accomplish as opposed to shelling out severl hundreds for a Shapeoko. Even upcycling from a few DVD-ROMs would be cool.

Arduino and ramps is generally used for this sort of thing, but you could try and connect it to a pi. I don't see why you can't just use a regular PC though.

One of the reasons that a Arduino is used and not a Raspberry Pi is the number of PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) connections. To my understanding the Raspberry Pi does not have enough to control the stepper motors for the device.
