Dear Ben,

I think that it would be a cool idea in that you would make a touch screen phone or tablet with the Raspberry PI. I think that it would be a fun project to build for you and all of your viewers. I personally think that it is a great idea and am considering on doing it myself. I as well am working on a raspberry_pi small portable laptop. While im here I would like to ask a question of mine. I would really like to see how to make a plastic case for a project without 3d printing one. I saw your video on one of the cases you made but I would like to see you make one with out the 3d printer (possibly for the phone or tablet I have suggested) I think that the screen size for these models should be at a 3.5 inch to 6 inch display for the phone and a 7 inch to 12 inch for the tablet. I also think that these should have a touch screen display for a more portability for a user. I also think that there should be an on screen keyboard if possible. I feel like that this could really change something in the movement/growth of technology from the features of the rasberry_pi. Like having it setup as a media center or an actual computer to surf the web and things like that. I hope that you can really consider my idea and that you can get the project done. Unfortunately I am only 14 and can't really get anything expensive I can't really complete some of the projects and that's why I decided to let you in on the idea. For a sum what example you could look at the surface pro 3 or an iPhone.

Here are a few videos from the Ben Heck Show that pertain to the mentioned topics:

You can purchase TFT Touchscreens in various sizes for the Raspberry Pi including a 7 inch LCD that would be perfect for a "tablet" build.

The PiPhone build is also not a new concept, and has already been done by Dave Hunt, using a GSM Module and a TFT Touchscreen from Adafruit.

As far as Media Center and Web browsing is concerned, the Noobs software allows you to do both.

Introducing the New Out Of Box Software (NOOBS) | Raspberry Pi

Noobs will allow you to install one or more OS's such as Raspbian, Raspbmc, etc. Raspbian is a Linux Distribution for Raspberry Pi that essentially turns the Pi into a mini Linux Computer capable of web browsing and much more. And then there is Raspbmc and other various sorftware like XBMC which turn the Pi into a Media Center. With Noobs, you can install both, so when the Raspberry Pi is booted up, you have the choice in which OS you wish to boot. I personally have Raspbian and XBMC loaded on a few of my SD cards.

Someone else has had a go at this now - http://www.davidhunt.ie/piphone-a-raspberry-pi-based-smartphone/

Some good ideas but leaves plenty of room for adding your own twist. I guess for you cost is going to be the major issue, but if you can acquire some of the parts from old equipment that could bring costs down for you.
