Double Decker firmware configuration - two motors one extruder

Former Member
Former Member over 11 years ago

Hi,

Im building an extruder with two motors but only for one nozzle. So I remembered the double decker printer. However in the first episode we see that the motors are wired in series, something I cant do since one motor has to turn the other way around. The 5th driver slot on the RAMPS is also ideal to drive the second motor.

What I cant find is a way to enable 2 motors on one extruder. All I can find on google is dual extrusion. I also can activate the pins for the 2nd motor but can someone give me a hint how I can start programming the 2nd motor to do what the first does only in reverse.

Cheers

Have you tried looking through the reprap forums? http://forums.reprap.org/  If you can't find it, you can always ask there.

I think this can get you started http://www.bing.com/search?q=2+extruders+1+nozzle+forums.reprap.org&form=DLCMHP&pc=MDDS&mkt=en-us&refig=794ca2b76392410198194108e42a2091&pq=2+extruders+1+nozzle+forums.reprap.org&sc=0-13&sp=-1&qs=n&sk=&cvid=794ca2b76392410198194108e42a2091

Yes, I have the same question in the firmware forum there but nothing so far. I will post it in the general section later as well.

All topics from the search are about dual extrusion functions. Enableling dual extrusion is a function in marlin which can be done easy in the configuration.h but I think I need to link the extruder motor control to the 5th motor and then reverse it and that will require getting deep into the code and thats were Im starting to struggle.

To reverse that motor, all you need to do is reverse the order of the wires to the board. Or inside of the firmware, you can set the direction just like any axis. Most dual extruders have the motors running the same direction.

True, totally didnt think about that.

I think I can clone the extruder similar to the dual Y axis control. Thats at least easier to search

Edit: cloning doesnt work because its not a preprogrammed function i can just enable.
