Perf-board wiring

Ben is the master of building projects on Perf board. Anyone know what gauge of wire he uses when he's building things like his Z80 projects? I know I am using too heavy a gauge, just by watching him work. I've been using solid core wire too, and I'm pretty sure he doesn't.

I don't know about Ben, but I always use #30 AWG solid-core wire-wrap wire for perf board signal wires.  If I don't have a ground plane, I'll use thicker wire for power and ground buses.  I use #22 for solderless breadboards.

I use 30 gage solid wire-wrap wire when I an making wire-wrap connections and for jumpers on PCBs.

I use 22 gage solid wire for solderless breadboards.

I also use 22 gage solid wire (sometimes with no insulation) for point-to-point solder prototyping on prototyping cards. However, I don't use perf board for prototyping, I use Veroboard or stripboard - it is faster and makes for a much cleaner wiring job as at least half of the connections are made with existing printed copper strips. Plus you can solder chips, sockets, active and passive components directly to the copper strips - no glue needed and no "space-wiring".

No problem electrically.  It's just easier to work with #30 since it's more flexible.  It's also easier to solder since it has lower thermal mass.
