Game Brains 2 is Off the Hook - Where does he get this stuff?

My skills and knowledge have come a long way since watching Ben Heck for the last year.

With these new skills, I thought I had reached that point at the end of the Matrix when Neo saw the world is the code that it is - until Game Brains 2.

Where does he get all the info to come up with this stuff?  I wouldn't know where to begin to determine which consoles had similar architectures and what their specific graphics chips required.

Were these hacks going on for years since the bulletin board days?

And, how is he still in his thirties and knows all those movie references?

The number one thing I've discovered about electronics is the more you understand, the more you realize you don't understand.  I'm just a simple hobbyist, but I have heard electrical engineers of 30+ years experience say that if you're trying to learn everything there is to know you're not going to succeed.  The key is to know the basics and know the deeper part of what is necessary for what you're working on at the moment.  Come up with an idea for a project, figure out how to make it happen, repeat.  Know your boundaries, of course, but always try to take on projects that push the boundaries slightly.  That's how you learn. image  Keep in mind that some people have a natural gift for things such as this as well as having many years experience in the field and that makes a difference.

As far as the movie references, I have no idea.
