CCTV Wi-fi using battery

Former Member

Hi, is the any way to power a Wi-fi CCTV cam using a battery and what would be the best way to do this.

I would be using this at airsoft games to record the matches and the edit and upload the video to our website. Due to not having easy access to power on most sites the team would be moving the cams.

You might find that the power requirements are quite big for such a system. You could look at something based off a car or motocycle battery but that depends on how portable it needs to be.

Why not something like a GoPro?

I setup a little battery rig in a tool box for something similar.

Using 4 X 12V gel cell sealed lead acid batteries from an old UPS (free) I was able to rig them in series to get the 48V needed to power the WiFi AP (PoE). This entire setup fits nicely in a small plastic tool box with a handle.

I even bolted a fiberglass pole to the box to get the AP up where I want it - you should be able to do the same for your camera.

Can the camera be powered by PoE as well?
