Where I can start learning schematics?

Former Member
Former Member over 9 years ago

Hi element14.

well I'm so frustrated and upset with schematics I cant understand them very good, always I watch tutorial or something, everyone has a different explanation!! Apart from that I was watching few videos but i couldn't understand anything. My question is where to star? I love electronics I love to learn and understand almost everything.

what i need basically is, what is schematics what the purpose of the schematics what each symbols mean and what we need it for? How you can read a diagram. And how you can make yours!. I hope I'm not asking too much but seriously I'm whiling to spend hours, days, year to understand it. Thank you guys so much. And if there any video series I would appreciate that as wel.

    Hi Oualid,

It sounds like you want a practical, quick method of learning electronics and how to read schematics, so probably a good idea is something like this book:

Mims - Getting Started in Electronics

(I don't know the copyright status to this book, it is quite old, so you could either buy a copy of it or search around).

Please note this is a very basic book, but it is enough to get started for now. Anything deep would take years, like any subject.

By the way, the reason why some old books are quite popular, is because they teach the subject well, written by experts.

There are Youtube videos but they are not of the same calibre of such books.

Since the fundamentals of electronics (physics!) does not change then the old books are still relevant. No point wasting too much time

with Youtube videos, especially when some (nearly all?) are not created by experts in the field.

Be careful where you learn from. That's the best advice I can give!

Also, you could use this link, it is a single location where some of the best resources are documented:

I Want to Do Electronics!  Where do I start?

Signal typically flows left-to-right.  Potential typically runs top-to-bottom.  Do you know your drops?  Power Qs fail open from overheating and closed from spikes, usually.

Look at oldie-but-goodie schematics.  Use your imagination to suss what is happening.  Put the schematics you find in a simulator such as LTSpice.  Play with the values.
