I am just starting in electronics / hardware. I have been a developer for 10+ years. The following is an introduction to my first project and could use any help since I'm a n00b at electronics.
Background
I live in an apartment and have a stand alone garage for my car. The only way to get in is if I take the huge visor remote in with me, and hope I don't forget it when I leave. So my idea is to make a bluetooth opener.
Project Idea
Open garage door using Adafruit Feather Bluefruit as the controller, (they have an iOS app already), to be the base of opening the garage door. I want to attach this to the garage door motor and trigger it from my phone.
Help
I am not sure where to start or where to look to figure out how to hook it up to the motor. Not sure what to look for on what wire/connection I need to trigger the opener to go up and stop when it's up. Also what to connect to to be able to make the garage door go down. Any help / resources you could point me to would be great thanks.
