Custom buttons, switches, and sensors?

Any suggestions for a good source of custom purposed buttons for projects? For example, I've owned several iOS devices and the buttons are always the first thing to go. You can replace these but I've only ever seen straight replacements. I want to swap in some solid state replacements that feature no moving parts but that are sensitive to touch (capacitive?) and fit the existing button holes, look good, and don't break the bank. Ideas?

    My idea for you in not exactly a capacitive button but a button sidestep.

     

    Place 2 bare wires anywhere on the phone/mp3 player you want. When you touch the 2, you will make the connection. Hardwire that in parallel with the regular "home" button.

     

    Many membrane buttons, calculator buttons, work off the same principle. You could pull a contact out of there. Place them like stickers.
