Even cooler would be a hack to make it a network cam... There must be thousands of them just gathering dust as smart phone cams make them less desireable to carry around.

David,
I recall reading once that those type of cameras do not have a live-streaming capability. You might be out of luck.
However, you can use it to make films and edit with Adobe Premier. : http://tv.adobe.com/watch/davtechtable/using-the-flip-hd-and-other-pocket-usb-cameras-with-premiere-pro-cs4-/
Recent native support has been added.

I really don't care about the flipHD as a recording video camera anymore. Since it can output recorded video to an hdmi port and can send live video to its own screen, I was thinking that there must be a way to physically hack it to send video directly to a computer monitor or to a hdtv. It would be more useful to me that way. If the usb port could supply the power, so much the better. thanks for your reply, tho.
You'd have to intercept the video going to it's little screen and convert it to something useful. Definitely not worth it, its not like a VGA or DVI signals, all those little screens are different and most of them lack any type of documentation as they are made custom for whatever product they are in.
