LCD Reading Lamp Challenge

I work at a computer shop that takes in old and broken computer for recycling. We have more than a few LCD panels that come in with broken TFTs.

What I would like to do is take one of those panels with a working backlight and remove the tft. I would like to use it as a reading lamp on the wall above my bed, but I dont know how to power the LED backlight.

I think it would be cool to read in the light of a glowing white panel. If you could help me with this I would be very greatful.

Can you give us a few details, a model number and a pic would be ideal. We can advise, and help with correct power circuit then

Are these LED or CCFL backlights? If they are CCFL, you can find cheap (sub $10) CCFL inverters all over. The inverters typically run off of DC power so an AC/DC adapter will be necessary.

The LED backlit panel I am currently playing with is an AU Optronics Model #B140XW01
I also have access to a CCFL backlit panel and I may have an available inverter to use. That one is a Samsung LTN154X3
If all I need is the power the inverter, what voltage do I need to use?

I know that I need to work on one problem at a time, but i would like to be able to dim the light as well.
If anyone has ideas please let me know.

Depends on your bulb, but they tend to be around 900-1500V. You can find dimmable inverters as well. Look at these unversal ones on ebay

I found a datasheet for the panel at http://www.datasheet4u.net/datasheet/B/1/4/B140XW01-V9_AUO.pdf.html
I've been reading through it and found specs on the backlight on pages 15, 19, and 21. I'm not too sure what it is that I'm looking at.
Can I power the LED strip directly or do I need to use the controler circuits? If I want to be able to dim it, do I need to use PWM or can I just vary the voltage.
I will be playing with these ideas and any others you guys can think of until I find the answers I want.

I'll let you know what I discover.
