Challenge: hand held wii

Having the Wii handheld wouldn't work real well with all the motion games, which is most of the Wii's library.

the motion control is in the wii remote itself so if you can find a way to put it in the console and make a substitute for the infrared detector it could work

It is in the Wiimote, but it requires a stationary target (the sensor strip).  So then you have to put a sensor bar up some where and run a cord, or do the opposite and have a stationary Wiimote and you are moving the sensors, making it not really a handheld.  I think the Wii Laptop is a better idea honestly.

The "sensor bar" is not a sensor. It has infrared LEDs in it. The sensor is a camera in the Wiimote. That camera sees the positions of the IR LEDs and the console uses that video input to gauge the relative position of the Wiimote.

What you see on the TV screen when calibrating the Wiimote is the Wiimote's camera view of the LEDs in the not-a-sensor bar.

that is why you have to find a substitute for the infrared detector and if you are going to buy the new wii-u that wouldn't be a problem because you would have the infrared transmitter anyway

They already have something hand-held with the same power as the Wii - any smartphone.

you can say the same about the atari portable but you have made 2 of those. That is not the point off my challenge im just saying it could be cool to have a portable wii

It will be interesting to see how the wii-u handles portability. The IR sensor strip is built in to the front.

If you attempt to create a portable wii, you might want to consider embedding the strip in the housing. However, unlike the wii-u, the original lacks all the various positioning sensors needed to operate like one device.

Unless you are using the original wii as a portable console emulator, you will be limited in what you can accomplish in a hand-held design.

Yes Ben, but can you play super Mario galaxy on a smartphone. I think a detachable, battery powered sensor bar would be fine.
