Lets talk Project Cases!

Ben;

What makes your projects stand out from the rest are your ability to design and build professional cases.  Can you please disscuss what design software, CNC, Laser Engravers, and other tools you use to create your cases.  This is a topic that most electronics tech have trouble with, at least I do.

Thanks!

John R

    I design a lot of my stuff in Adobe Illustrator, then use Partworks (V-Carve) to create 3D CNC paths to cut material.

    I also use a laser engraver and a Makerbot Replicator.

    I like to use plastic containers from things I have bought, and altoids tins to store most of my smaller builds, because I rarely ever build larger things.

    I'm just getting into this so I dont really have a CNC machine of anykind but I want my projects to have that manufactured look (kinda OCD :/ ) would anyone have a suggestion as to where I could have things cut/made for me or a material that could be molded (a plastic like material not like clay)?

    Wood is always an option as it is easy to shape, however the downfall is that it is too bulky. You may be able to get sheet metal, cut it, weld it and use that as a case, but unless you are going to get a CNC machine otherwise you could just buy a standard project box off of amazon or your prefered place to buy random things. Boxes like this seem to be very popular > http://www.amazon.com/Electronics-Enclosure-Plastic-Project-1-562/dp/B003EABUBQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1361243362&sr=8-1&keywords=project+box
