The power supply on your bench... BEN!

I would like to build a similar power supply unit to the one you have on your bench. I recall you saying in one of your episodes you had done an show on it, but I cant seem to find it.

Basically i need something versatile (using a pc power supply) that I can control the output (voltage / amperage) and have it read out to small LED. If you know of any way to pull this off it would be on HECK of a swiss army knife to have in my arsenal. One stop power shop!

I would recommend using http://www.ti.com/product/tps55340
connected to the 12V output of a ATX power supply, and set it up with a variable pot. then it would allow for a range of 0-40V at 4-5amps. while still having outputs for the typical ATX powers 3.3V,5V,12V, -12V, and maybe -5V.

If you youtube you will find many atx power supply mods as well.

Do you mean the black box with a fan that sounds like a jet engine?

It's just an old PC power supply in a generic enclosure. Wire leads are attached to the important voltages.

I'm not sure which one you are talking about so I'll list several options for you. Did you mean "Conserve Energy & Create An Earth Day Wall Wart", "Return of the Portable Work Bench", or "variable DC power supply"? If you meant the last one than you might try Variable DC Power Supply Schematic.
