Need help/inspiration (Possible project for show)

I was browsing on the Internet a while back and stumbled upon a computer someone took and I guess put on a piece of plywood with some LEDs and made it look real futruristic. I can't remember where I seen it but I figure you could do it a little better anyhow. I have a couple unused CPUs that just need hard drives and I am curious about a possible RAID seeing how I have to get new hard drives anyway. Also curious as to if you could combine the processors to somehow work in conjunction for more speed and functionality similar to the RAIDing of the hard drives with all of it wall mounted on the sheet of plywood. Thanks for your time.

You can't really combine individual CPU's but if you have whole CPU/Motherboard/memory combinations you could combine them in a sense into a Beowulf cluster http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beowulf_cluster.

There is a whole field of computer science built around parallel and distributed processing. Building a small cluster is a great way to get started.
