Gamecube dvd Hack

I'm trying to mod a gamecube using Raspberry Pi and mame software. is there any way to hook up the mini DVD play to the Pi. I plane on using this as a portable player with a 5" screen and a battery.

You can get an external DVD drive and take it apart. But with an external dvd drive you would need and external power source as the usb on the pi wouldn't have enough juice to power it.

Why do you want a DVD player in there?

A $10 SD holds more than that nowadays.

I know the card or usb drive will work but I was just woundering if I could use the same mini dvd drive since it was already there.

What are you trying to do with the dvd drive? As the gamecube drive does not allow you to play movies you could however take apart another dvd drive and swap out the parts.

You could use a USB DVD drive if you really wanna, but good luck with the drivers.

You can use openelec for DVD playback. I would use a slot load based laptop DVD drive. Then I would modify a laptop charger as my power source to power the DVD, Pi and LCD.

I figured if I could get it wired up it would be the same as oa regular DVD so I could use openelec. My other ideal was to put a small lcd screen on the cover so you could pop it up and strip all the mini dvd components out. Since it was there I just wanted to try to use it.
