Question on how to get started.

I have been watching a lot of viideos on youtube about arduino development and prototyping, and it sounds like somethign i want to try.

 

I am a software developer by trade so the coding shouldent be an issue,

but i was looking for sugestions on what hardware to get to start.

i know there are some starter kits out there but i dont know if i should go with one of those or part it out.

 

Also i have never soddered anythign so i know i will be starting with a breadboard or something like that.

    The arduino Uno board is a good starting platform. Yes, you can buy premade kits with an arduino and breadboards, ...

    I started just with an arduino Uno because I had a few electronic components laying around.

    The official arduino starter kit seems to be an exellent kit to get started with. But it's a bit expensive.(In my country, It costs 100$) Link: http://arduino.cc/en/Main/ArduinoStarterKit

    You can also buy all of the parts separately. If you do this, make sure you buy the following items: breadboard, jumper wires, LED's, a few resistors (10k ohm and 220 ohm are values that are used a lot), a pushbutton, an LDR (Light dependant resistor), an NPN transistor (For example: 2N222), ...

    Some sites also offer arduino kits like adafruit and sparkfun.

    If you plan to continue in electronics, you should also buy a basic digital multimeter and an soldering iron.
