Ceiling fan regulator

Hi ben,

          I lie your show very much. I am varma from India. Right now I am working on Home automation project. I want to control (ON/OFF) some basic electrical appliences ( like fan, light , TV etc).

I was able to control the basic on and off operation. Now I want to go a step further and add light dimmer and also fan speed regulator. I was unable to find a simple circuit. Will you help me in this work.

(The light is CFL bulb and fan is a regular ceiling fan)  Thank you in advance.

    Hi Varma,

    most CFL bulb's don't support dimming but if you google "triac dimmer" and also look for "zero crossing" that will work fine for the fan. To automate it you might want to include an optical isolator into the mix too. You are probably best using a relay or solid state relay for the CFL bulb. Don't forget a supression capacitor if you are using a mechanical relay.

     

    The circuits should not be too complicated, no more than a handful of components.
