Raspberry Pi - On Board Speaker?

Hi everyone in the community.

I'm a little out of my depth so thought I'd ask people that know

I am interested in the possibilty of creating an "on-board" speaker that is directly soldered to my Raspberry Pi.

Ideally I'd like to know if it is possible to directly solder a small speaker to the connection / pins of the 3.5mm audio jack, without losing the actualy jack (i use it to connect a gooseneck flexi arm for my camera assembly).

Just wondering if anyone in the community has already created a similar mini hack (and if so what equipment did you use / would you recommend) or if there is anyone who can help.

Any help would be greatly received.

You should be able to, It's probably not a good idea to run both at once though as you might overload the port, so if you have an 8 ohm speaker hooked up to lets say the left channel, now you hook up something to the jack and you now have two 8 ohm speakers to it, you are doubling the current coming out of that channel. Also, if its starts limiting current because of that, now that you have an unbalanced load, one of your channels might sound weaker than the other.

There's a hack that uses a single transistor to make a down and dirty amplifier. You could use that and tap off the 5 volt line, so you're not just using the speaker line power (which isn't much)
