DIY 3D printer software

Hello Elementalists,


So I'm attempting to build my own 3d printer like Ben did way back in season 1. I work with 3 different ones at our lab so my design is based off of my favorite things about them, and i'm really just looking to see what open source 3D printing software would be my best option. Any suggestions?

    Also I have a left over Arduino and a gShield that's compatible with grbl cnc software.

    Hello Giovanni

    So you will need both software and firmware for the printer to operate.  The firmware will be loaded onto the controller board and the software onto a computer.  For the firmware I usually use Marlin but can use others such as Repetier, Sprinter among others.  As for the software side you will need a slicing and interface tool.  For slicing my go do is Slic3r but can use others like Skeinforge and so on.  My interface software is Printrun(pronterface) but can use Repetier to name another.  These are all free pieces of software.  Hope this gets you started.  Don't hesitate to ask questions if you get stuck along the way.
