Plastic filler for projects?

There has been something on my mind for a long time but I never knew exactly how to go about looking it up as I don't know exactly what the product is.

To be a little more on par with what information I am looking for, let me share a major example.

I see a lot of custom case mods for various consoles and handhelds and the most professional looking ones make their customizations look as if it were factory made.

For example, removing something major on the existing case that has now left a large hole in the case. They cover the hole and make it look as if it were never there.

What does one use to do that?

The only thing I can think of would be fiberglass or bondo, but I am not exactly sure.

I ask because I have many project concepts in mind and I would like to know what these sort of modders use, so I can make my custom builds more professional looking rather than just slapping some tape over a hole or gluing a piece of whatever to it, still rendering it looking like crap. Pardon my language.

Here is a good example of what I mean:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7nhv3iHdMFY

This guy modded an old Nintendo DS to function simply as just a fancy Gameboy Advance, removing the top screen and such.

But if you notice, he made it look sleek and professional, as in, if you hadn't known it used to have a top screen, you wouldn't even know there used to be hinges on the top.

And shed of light on the situation would most gracious.

Some modders purposely leave holes. Then, without disturbing the case, they change the filament colour and make it look like a 'factory-made' one. But for all this, you will need a 39 printer/ lasercutter.

I am aware of mods that leave intentional holes with or without plexiglass for an internal view and/or light show, as I have done several myself, however this is not related to what I have asked.

Hi Corey - I used to use a material called Plastipair that came as a powder. I would add an acrylic liquid to the powder and it would liquify it. After it cured for a couple of hours it would be hard just like the original plastic. In the case of a hole I wanted to fill I would tape one side and then fill it from the back. After it cured I would remove the tape to reveal the patched hole. Incidentally dentists use this same material to make and repair dentures. I am not sure how you would color match an existing color and it doesn't work on none acrylic based plastics. I have included a link in case you want to check it out.  Plas-T-Pair Fixes Anything That Breaks

I think a lot of the time they just cut out and glue an appropriately sized piece of plastic, glue, sand and re-paint. The Gameboy-ds was repainted orange
