Either under emulation for the x86 code set or the new ARM based Win 8 or are we talking about the old winCE?

James, I do software work and would not want to try to get Windows on Raspberry Pi because the resources needed would overwhelm that poor little Pi Clem

Not quite.
Windows 10 IoT so don't expect a desktop.

Details are sketchy but will no doubt come out in the fullness of time.

So true!

I have to summon all my patience to run Chrome on an LXDE or XFCE desktop on 1GB RAM Raspbian.

Windows? Why would anyone do this? Maybe, in the future, Windows 2089 will be installed on the RPi-2089 as easily as Raspbian is today. I'll try be watching with bated breath from wherever I float away to post-mortem. (-:

If by "Windows" you mean "Windows desktop" and with vendor support, the answer is easy: No.

What happens in the future is anyone's guess. I don't think that Microsoft currently has a coherent strategy for SoCs.
