GameBoy mod: HELP!!!

Former Member
Former Member over 10 years ago

If anyone knows their way around a GameBoy Advanced SP, I found my old GBASP while cleaning my room, and i thought: Awesome, its been forever since i played it and Pokemon Red is still in it! Groovy! I turned it on and the screen lit and the classic sound played and then NOTHING!!! I ravaged through my other boxs that i know that had my other GBA game and i tried them and kept getting the same result. Last I remembered the buttons still worked and I know the screen works so i kind of think that the game port went bad or something. Then a thought came to mind, if its only the game port (as far as i know) thats bad, can't I change it with a SD card adapter and see if it can play GBA game roms instead? Or at least play something!? Can this be possible?

I would agree with John and clem57 . Check the battery for charge retention, bulges, leaks, etc. Also check the general condition of the GBA for ingress of dust. Are you seeing the Nintendo logo on the…

    Hi

Before you decide to try and mod this to SD, the issue sounds more like a power problem, if this gameboy has been sitting around uncharged for a long time, the battery was probably drained flat this can damage the capacity, the amount of power it has stored.

Even if you charge this battery it will not likely recover, you could try running this device from a mains outlet to rule out power being the issue, if you find it works, purchase a new battery.

    Regards

Good answer. Also check for dust bunnies inside that affect electronics.
