Atari 2600 Computer

Hey Ben, I need some help.  I'm trying to make (as you saw up there) an Atari 2600 computer.  It will be the system, probably a Flashback 3 system, with the top being an old keyboard.  Only the W,A,S,D, and 1 keys would work due to the joystick buttons being under those keys.  A monitor would be attached to the back, making it look like a laptop, but able to play Atari2600 games.  Now for my question.  What all wiring would I have to do to get this all to work?  I have a decent idea of what to do, but it's probably good to ask the Atari Lord and his community just in case. My email is UGevan11@gmail.com if you'd rather personally message me.  Thanks!!

WOW, even for Ben I think this would be like several installments on YouTube. Do you have the schematics to a 2600 or even a physical one? That would be the first place I would look to find wiring answers…

WOW, even for Ben I think this would be like several installments on YouTube. Do you have the schematics to a 2600 or even a physical one? That would be the first place I would look to find wiring answers. Doing a quick Google search gave me like thousands of schematics so start there and work your way back.

How was this for a first post?

You could check this site.  It has schematics for the Atari as well as a pin out for the controllers in case you plan to use different buttons.

Yes, I have a physical 2600.  I've dismantled it a couple times in the past, and watched Ben's videos using the Atari.  Thanks for the help.

Evan, I did not mean to come across as sarcastic but your question is somewhat vague. Better qualified help can and will be supplied to you if you are more specific with your questions and have a little bit more knowledge embedded in them. As far as the wiring, there are far to many permutations and options available and many paths that you can go down but it seems as if you want the ENTIRE wiring diagram and that would be an extensive project as you probably already know. It might well make an excellent YouTube video tho. Good luck with your project.

Save yourself some effort and just wire up the directions to some micro switches and appropriate keycaps. That way you can only wire the buttons you need with a nice action and have a much cleaner case front. If you can track down a copy of Ben's book "hacking videogame consoles" you can find some plans for various portables that you could modify.
