My theatre prop - Cinderella clock

At the end of this week's episode, you asked if anyone had built a movie or theatre prop using electronics.

The answer is yes image

I'm a parent volunteer at my daughter's high school for their drama productions where I help build the sets for them. Up to this point, I had no construction experience but it's a group of dads getting together on a few Saturdays to play with power tools image I'm now a convert to that cause. As a kid, I played around with electronics so I know which end of a resistor to blow into but I had real life get in the way of pursuing anything with it.

A couple of years ago, the school put on a production of Cinderella and I took it upon myself to build a clock. I wrote up my endeavours here: http://projects.ravelox.com/blog/?cat=25.

This was my first time using the atMega328 and the first time soldering in many many years but, I have to say, the motivation to do it did come from The Ben Heck Show image

For the most part, it worked although the number 12 fell off just before opening night and Cinderella did have to leave the ball at 12:06 during one performance because the servo didn't stop at the right place but I was pleased with the end result.

That's fantastic. As a former theatre prop builder, I can absolutely appreciate this. I had to build and paint the pumpkin carriage for my high school. It was fun. Fun fact, toilet plungers painted black…

It is not so easy to secure people to the spot on stage... they tend to wander around and miss their mark, unless you tie a large stage weight to their ankle...

Dare we ask what the hind legs were made out of ?

I guess that the plungers meant that you could also secure the prop to the spot fairly easily image
