Atari Talk

Ben picked up a bunch of Ataris and has been tearing them apart(Lisa!) to fix the ones he can. We have an upcoming build where he would like to have multiple models for testing. We have a particular game in mind for this project, but we'd like to know what was/is your favorite Atari game? Have you made any awesome Atari hacks you'd like to share? Tell us about them in the comments below!image

I added svideo and composite. I also built an adapter to use neo geo controllers and start and select on the controller serve as reset and select.

I think that would probably be 'Night Rider' and 'Moon Patrol'. Did anyone else have 'BASIC Programming' with the keypads ... ? ...and who else had heavy-handed 'friends' that kept breaking the shafts…

My favorite Atari 2600 game is Adventure. I still remember reading about the mysterious "dot" in a computer magazine as a kid. Eventually I found the dot and uncovered the Easter Egg. I was extremely disappointed…

Without changing the external appearance of the Atari 2600 Case, there might be enough room inside for something like a Raspberry Pi 3 wired to the available switches.

I am working on a Pi Xbox (Original One) that is wired to the buttons, leds and controller ports on Xbox case.

It might be possible to fit another game console such as NES, SNES, or other similar console that uses cartridge.

That would require some of Ben Heck magic though.

Yeah. Sounds like a Dremel and a 3D printer would come in handy for that one.

Not sure if it has been done before but how about a 3D printed miniature of the Atari 2600 with RetroPie engine inside it.

I quite liked the concept of the Atari Classics - Plug 'n' Play TV Games, '2600 in a joystick', but the supplied 10 games limited it somewhat.

Was the first new game I ever got!!!! My parents would only buy me a new game if I beat the game.  "Challenge Accepted!"  besides Krull,  I loved Joust tho was my all time favorite.

    That is a great idea.

A dremel and 3D printer would make it very easy to customize the Atari or other slot based game console case for use with other carts.

Having a 3D Printer can be very helpful in the creation of customized parts.

My 2018 New Years Resolution is to purchase a 3D Printer for my shop.

Every time Joust is mentioned now, I just think of Ready Player One. I blame Ernie Cline and my friend, Angie, who may or may not be his biggest fan.

I've always thought how handy it would be to have the reset button for older consoles on their controllers. How did you go about doing that? Do you have a write-up anywhere about it?

So follow the Nintendo trend of having mini versions of their systems with all(or most) of the games preloaded? I can see that being quite popular!

OK so I think if there is so many and you are needing a project salvaging is going to be a major part so why not make something like this but maybe something that holds alot more and displays them as art decor as well on the side or something but my suggestion would be a multi cart changer as I know I have a few hundred games myself and would be cool to be able to use a ir remote to select the game I wanted and power the system on and off.  or something like that but here is a picture of a similar idea but I was thinking more then 10 game depends really on your surplus of extra console that are pooched.

also more ideas on it here and one of the nicer docs I have seen

I basically just use your phone jacks and built a little box. It's rather crude but it's just a prototype really.
