PS2 Slimline Portable Project

I will be making a PS2 Slimline portable laptop-ish thing for a while, as I was told by Karen to do it myself since its not that difficult of a project (as long as you don't do a keyboard - I don't have the brainpower for that nor the patience). I will have my dad help me, as he is good with building, wiring, etc. in terms of technology. My plan is to:

- Have a 8-10 inch 480p or higher screen that flips down onto the PS2 like a laptop

- A ~6000-7000 mAh laptop battery to keep it running for a few hours per charge (Hopefully at least 2)

- Try to keep the original design, but add things onto it

- Possibly try to allow it to connect to an external monitor/TV for use as a normal home console

I will have this discussion up as a way to ask for help whenever I hit a snag, and if I ever finish the project I'll post pictures and summarize how it went.

I have actually been looking over the console for a while, and have already hit a pretty annoying problem regarding the disc drive When it turns on, it's fine, but as soon as the lid shuts, the laser deck motor tries to push the laser deck forward, and continues to click loudly due to reaching its limit. The only way to stop it is by opening the lid and resetting or shutting off the PS2. This didn't happen before, as the laser deck always resets itself when the lid is opened but isn't now. What should I do?

Sounds like it's a hardware problem. The homing limit switch on the laser read head isn't working properly. Check to see if the switch is unplugged. If the connection seems solid, then the switch might be broken and need replacing.
