USB Typ-C Networkswitch

Hello,

I know that it is not necessarily polite and exemplary to ask for a product or project right after registration. But I'm looking for a specific device.

I bought a notebook with USB Type-C and got familiar with the possible adapters, especially since the port of my notebook also supports Thunderbolt 3.

I've seen network switches in shops that get their power via USB, but none of these switches also use the data lines to connect the power supplier to the network.

I can imagine a switch that connects the laptop to the switch via Thunderbolt 3 (or at least USB 3) at high performance. This switch could then provide additional Ethernet ports.

Such a mobile switch could be used for training and conferences, for example.

I don't know if this platform is the right place to bring my idea to interested hackers and companies. I don't want to make money with this idea either, I just want to be able to buy it for a good price under 80 Euros.

I would like to hear your opinion on this idea. I would like to receive an answer with "yes we will sell it".

Sounds like you could do something similar with off-the-shelf parts by using a USB powered Ethernet switch with its uplink port plugged into a USB Ethernet adapter.

Normally this approach would consume two USB ports which you may be trying to avoid, in which case you would need to tap the Ethernet Switch power supply off of the USB Ethernet adapter.

Training and conferences would normally have access to mains power however so without further details of the intended configuration it is not clear as to exactly what you are trying to achieve here by trying to run everything off the laptop USB port. If it is to run on battery power, then the USB Ethernet switch could be powered off a USB power bank instead.

I find the available solutions simply not thought through by the manufacturer.

It was just an example where you have your laptop with you and maybe you want a switch, of course you could also quickly open an ad-hoc WiFi...

I just think it would be very nice if you could pull your lab switch out of your backpack on the basis of a problem and get started right away.

another idea would be to meet friends on the train and play a game.

I was thinking of a combination of those chips (or something like this)
