David's HLH Build Part 4

I am not even finished yet, but I wanted to share a few lessons learned so far with you:

  • I am not as good at soldering as I remember being
  • My eyesight is far worse than it used to be
  • Soldering iron burns hurt
  • The accuracy of my measuring technique and tolerances in 3D printer can cause issues when not factored together
  • Breaking a 2 hour 3D printed part in assembly is more painful than the soldering iron.

All that said, it's coming along, even with the fair amount of "dynamic design revisions" that are happening (making it up as I go along)! This will probably be my last post, as I want the final reveal to be in the video. Wo good luck to everyone else, and wish me luck, as I think I am going to need it!

I meant to tell you when I uploaded it but never got round to it! It's as small as I could make given the time. If I had longer, I think a custom PCB for the controller buttons power and screen controller…

Thanks Matthew, My replacement part was quick, so I managed to get it finished, but it has definitely compromised the quality of the screen mount! You'll see in the finished video.

I feel your pain. I've been 3D printing parts all week, and near the end I broke a delicate piece before it was securely assembled. I am SO close to being done and it's starting to look really cool, but…

Mine is an Anet A8? I have been using Octoprint, which I would 100% recommend!

    Thanks Gene,

I spent a long time struggling to split the double stacked charging controller. It originally had 9 pin vertical headers like the GPIO on the Pi and Screen. I was convinced I had screwed it up on multiple occasions! So I was thrilled when it all turned on for the first time!

Good luck getting your video ready, can't wait to see everyone's finished builds!
