"Laundry pager" build suggestion

I've had this idea for many years.  Most clothes washers and dryers have some sort of audible signal to notify you when they are done, but if you are too far away or there is too much other noise in the environment, you might not hear it.  It would be useful to have an alternate method of notification. It could be something as simple as a radio signal to a receiver device that you clip on your belt, or something more complex like interfacing with a smartphone or tablet through an app.  It should tell you whether it was the washer or dryer that finished, maybe allow for a reminder notification if you don't respond and maybe even have a timer that starts counting when the notification is received to tell you how ling it has been that your clothes have been sitting there.

That's pretty cool.   I live in an apartment like many people I know in Chicago and a text alert when I did laundry would make my life a whole lot better!

    Hurry up technology!

I guess that is what the Ben Heck Show is for!

    Oh wow!

If that's around here then I've never seen it.

Hope it starts making its way here.

Totally makes sense in a place like Chicago.

In my dorm you can have text alerts about your laundry (not just when it's done, but when it changes from was -> spin -> final spin), as well as an entire app and website that lets you see which washers or driers are available for use and how much time is remaining on the ones in use. This is not only interesting but also useful!
